Although Italian idealism should not be confused with fascism, as can be seen in how neo-idealist philosophy deals with it as a movement and as a regime, there are problems with interpretations claiming any relations between fascism and idealism, and between philosophical and political culture.2 Actually, the "Gentile question" presents a complex political project meant to transform both society and culture—a project that appears to be unconcerned with the secular character of politics and philosophical culture, as well as with theorizing about intellectual militancy.3
