Paul Piccone was more than an academic. He was a prophet for whom writing and speaking were weapons in a real battle. He made one realize that most academics have just settled for playing a comfortable parlor game. On the one hand, they forget that words have real power; and, on the other hand, they fail to connect words with the circumstance of material power. Paul Piccone suffered from no such illusions, and this is why, to meet him could be as shocking as it was exhilarating. Here was a man who gloriously had no time whatsoever for trivial civilities....
