The Italian Humanism of Paul Piccone

I do not recall the precise time when, or location where, I first met Paul Piccone. The general timeframe was the fall, 1967. The place, somewhere on the Ridge Lea campus of SUNY at Buffalo. Whatever the precise context, like many of my friends who came to know Paul during or after his time in graduate school, the initial experience was unforgettable, like confronting a tornado of verbal passion looking for a place to land, meeting someone larger than life. Those who never had this experience missed out on a rare treat.
