One of the first philosophical conversations I had with Paul Piccone concerned the issues in this paper. He was a stalwart critic of positivism. Specifically, he argued that not only were the social and natural sciences radically distinct, but that there were no such thing as social sciences (in spite of his brief sojourn into sociology).
