1. Telos and Federalism.1
The Telos critique of modernity, Marxism, liberalism and universalism does indeed lead to some kind of federalism. Why? Because alternative themes, such as community, tradition, neighborhood, cultural particularity and the life world, imply federal principles of de-centralism, direct democracy and local sovereignty. But what kind of federalism? That is the question. And the Telos answer, at least from Paul Piccone, is federal populism.2 This is a very communalist view, which amounts to a kind of unbridled localism.
