These books are the summation of numerous articles and co-authored works produced over the last two decades on topics ranging from philosophy of mind and philosophy of social science to political philosophy. Pettit's project is reminiscent of traditional philosophy in that he asks how these topics hang together when viewed foundationally. However, he is not traditional; he does not claim to deduce his political theory from his metaphysics. There are, for instance, no transcendental arguments lurking in these pages.
